Qur’anMemorizer

Looks and feels just like a real book

Available on the App Store

On iOS 7

﷽ – As-salaamu alaikum. As many websites including this one are showing, after less than 24 hours since the release of iOS 7, more people are on iOS 7 than on iOS 5. My own statistics for Qur’an Memorizer show that about 2% of users are still on iOS 5, and 6% are on iOS 7.

InshaAllah, the next version of Qur’an Memorizer will no longer run on iOS 5. This will give us the ability to use functionality that’s been introduced since iOS 5. I haven’t decided yet whether or not it will support iOS 6 and iOS 7 or just iOS 7. If the vast majority of users are on iOS 7, then it will make sense to move over to iOS 7 only.

As for the current version – it runs just fine, alhamdulillaah, under iOS 7.

Version 3.2 Released

The following bugs were fixed in this version:

  • Navigating to Surah Taubah (and verse 0 of the surah) caused a crash - Surah Taubah is the only Surah that does not start with “Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem”
  • The translation of verses in Surah Taubah was off by one verse
  • Autorotation sometimes didn’t work
  • On the iPhone in portrait mode, panning the book didn’t follow the finger closely.

Version 3.1 Released

In Version 3.0, there is a bug on the iPad, where if you launch the app in landscape mode the buttons on the splash page do not show up. You can get the buttons to show up by rotating the iPad to portrait mode and then back to landscape. There are also three actions that cause the app to crash:

  • Deleting a note
  • Playing an audio loop that includes the first verse of Surah Fatiha
  • Playing the video from the help screen (iPad only)

All of these bugs are fixed in version 3.1 which was released today. I apologize for the incovenience these bugs may have caused you.

Version 3.0 Released

What’s new in this release:

  • This app uses VoiceOver to be fully accessible to the blind and visually impaired. Thanks to Kevin Jones and Eric Knapp for encouraging me to do this.
  • The app is localized into Malay, Indonesian, Arabic and French.
  • You can zoom in to the page and make the text larger. Thanks to the many users who convinced me to add this feature.
  • When turning the page, the page follows your finger, so you can turn slowly or fast.
  • The images have been optimized for the Retina displays on the iPad, iPhones and iPod Touch.
  • This app is now fully compatible with the larger screen of the iPhone 5.
  • The default reciter has been changed to Sheikh Mishary bin Rashid Alafasy. You can download additional reciters from within the app.
  • The audio quality has been improved. With support for Retina displays and higher quality audio, the size of the app has increased, but you still don’t need internet access to use the app.
  • The default translation is that of Saheeh International. Hard copies of this translation of the Meanings of the Qur’an are available from Al-Muntada Al-Islami Trust (Email: quran@almuntad.ws)
  • You can optionally prevent your device from locking and stopping audio playback when playing an audio loop. Thanks to everyone who suggested this feature.
  • You can pause an audio loop by tapping on the current ayah, and then resume the loop later.
  • There is now a text-only mode that allows you to navigate quickly to the next and previous ayah.
  • You can open this app from any email or document that contains a link of the form quran://114/1
  • Various bug fixes

Jazaakum Allah Khairan to all the people who reported the bugs.

Known bugs:

  • Deleting a note causes the app to crash.
  • Running an audio loop on Surah Fatiha causes the app to crash.
  • The start button does not show up properly when the app is launched on the iPad in landscape mode.

These bugs are easy to fix and will be fixed in a few days, inshaAllah. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Version 2.3 Released

What’s new in this release:

  • You can rearrange the list of bookmarks and notes by tapping the “Edit” button on the upper right and dragging the items into their new location.
  • When you’re selecting a Surah from the Surah list, you can now optionally select an Ayah, to jump directly to that Ayah.
  • When an Ayah is highlighted, you can get rid of the highlight by performing a long-tap anywhere on the page. That is, tapping and keeping your finger pressed down for at least 0.75 seconds (three quarters of a second).
  • When you start an Audio Loop, the audio loop defaults to the first Ayah on the page you are on.

Bug Fixes:

  • Notes attached to bookmarks are now being saved properly.
  • Fixed the behavior of the Bookmark detail entry screen on the iPad in landscape mode.
  • Fixed the behavior of the “About” window on the iPad.
  • When an Audio loop is playing on the iPhone in landscape mode, the screen will automatically scroll to keep the currently playing Ayah visible.
  • Added missing translation to Surah Alaq.
  • Added the missing “Edit” button on the iPhone bookmark screen.

Jazaakum Allah Khairan to all the people who reported the bugs.

Fixes to Common Problems

A few people have reported that the audio does not work once they download the app. Alhamdulillah, all these problems have been fixed, in different ways.

If you’re experiencing problems with audio, first please try restarting your device. If that doesn’t work, please try resetting it. You can find instructions on how to restart and reset your device here.

Here’s another thing that has worked for someone else: If your iPad’s rotation lock/mute button on the side is set to rotation lock, try setting it to mute lock and back. That seems to fix the problem sometimes.
